DISCOVER THE MAGIC OF SCIENCE AT THE “PARTY OF THE SUMMER”
47th Annual Festival of Fountains is Friday, July 26 at Pacific Science Center

SEATTLE, WA (July 11, 2013) – Prepare yourself for an evening of wonder and inspiration at the 47th Annual Festival of the Fountains, where the lines between science and magic blur at the most enchanting, talked-about party of the summer.

At Festival of the Fountains, Seattle’s only outdoor black-tie gala, Pacific Science Center’s signature arches and iconic courtyards will sparkle with the magic of science, or rather, the science of magic, to create a celebration sure to capture the imaginations of all who attend.
This year’s theme is built on a quote from science fiction author and visionary Arthur C. Clarke, who once wrote “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” The soirée boasts performances by world-class magicians including Shawn Farquhar, the only magician in history to win World Championships for both Stage and Sleight of Hand.

Throughout the evening, guests will delight their senses with culinary creations, interact with scientists working at the cutting edge of science and behold in the magic of inspiration in our exhibit halls, where science comes to life for about one million guests a year. They will complete the night by dancing under the newly illuminated ‘satellite’ globes suspended under the apex of the arches, re-lit for the first time in nearly 20 years after a state-of-the art upgrade to new energy efficient bulbs.

Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by an alfresco dinner, dancing and entertainment.

Festival of the Fountains would not be possible without the dedication and leadership of gala co-chairs, Kathy and Ed Fries. Pacific Science Center extends our deepest thanks and gratitude for their exceptional efforts. Tickets start at $350 per person with proceeds benefiting Pacific Science Center’s education programs serving children, families and adults statewide.

Pacific Science Center greatly appreciates the generous support provided by the sponsors of the 47th Annual Festival of the Fountains: Amgen, The Boeing Company, Ferguson Construction, Group Health Cooperative, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, PACCAR Inc., PEMCO Insurance Company and The Space Needle.

Pacific Science Center began as the United States Science Pavilion during the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. Millions came to explore the wonders of science during the World's Fair and upon closing ceremonies, the Science Pavilion was given new life as the private not-for-profit Pacific Science Center, becoming the first U.S. museum founded as a science and technology center. On July 22, 2010 Pacific Science Center was declared a City of Seattle Landmark. On October 22, 2012 Pacific Science Center celebrated 50 years of inspiring curiosity, creativity and critical thinking for people of all ages throughout Washington and guests from around the world.
